Fuengirola is perhaps one of the most international and multicultural enclaves to be found on the Costa del Sol. Coming to Fuengirola is like entering a world where the butcher is Argentinian, the baker is Swedish and the aerial installer is from Manchester. In Fuengirola you can buy Danish liquorice, Finnish vodka, and go to the hairdresser’s for women with Svetlana from Russia, or get your spark plugs changed by the Scottish car mechanic.
It is said, roughly speaking, that 25% of Fuengirola's inhabitants are foreigners, and that figure rises dramatically in the summer season, when even more northern Europeans come to the town to enjoy the sun, the beach and the many other offerings that the active town has to offer. Fuengirola is a town with a pulse, plenty of people and an exceptionally wide range of services and amenities for the many visitors who come to holiday, overwinter or settle in the town.
Historically, Fuengirola has also been ‘invaded’ by foreigners. First by the Phoenicians who founded the town, and later by the Byzantines, Romans and Moors who occupied the town for centuries (and had a great influence on it) until it finally returned under the Spanish crown and the rule of the Spanish king in 1485. During the 1960s the town really began to grow as a tourist destination.
Fuengirola primarily offers a charming harbour, a lovely seafront promenade with everything that goes with it, and more than 7 km of sandy beach from Sohail Castle in the west to Torreblanca in the east. There is a wide selection of lovely holiday apartments and individual holiday homes, for both short- and long-term rental.
Gastronomy, nightlife, shopping opportunities, cultural experiences and large markets that invite exploration – there are virtually no limits to the activities the town offers. Two major and striking attractions are the popular zoo – ‘Bioparc Fuengirola‘ – and then the beautiful old Sohail fortress, built by the Moors in the year 956, which is not only a wonderful place to visit in itself, but has been renovated and is used for several major cultural and musical events.
Fuengirola has excellent transport links, with bus connections to most of Andalusia, as well as a train station that connects the coastal train directly to Málaga airport in just 33 minutes – as well as Málaga city centre and many destinations along the coast.
Come and visit Fuengirola if you are looking for a vibrant and cosmopolitan town, with plenty of beach life, modern conveniences and a great choice of gastronomy and culture.
At Malaga ferieboligudlejning you can book holiday accommodation on the desired dates and days that suit you best, i.e. if your arrival is best on a Tuesday and departure on a Monday, this can be booked. Many times flights are cheaper on less conventional travel days such as Tuesdays and not on Saturdays, which are the expensive days; this can mean you can get a couple of extra days' holiday for the same price as if you travel Saturday to Saturday.

Malaga ferieboligudlejning can also offer to do shopping for you so the fridge is stocked with food and drink. Many of our customers make use of this service, especially for late arrivals.
